I have noticed that you sometimes feature a painting by my teacher, Phil Guston. He was invariably a shit-detective, and there was plenty of poop in my paintings… he was an example of brutal honesty but not mean-spirited. That honesty was, I think, a kind of hard love. I read that same love in most of your replies to questions–though you’re a softy too. Thank you for being so present for your fans. You’re a mensch.
